What safety rules apply to a garden trampoline?
Ideally, let only one person jump at a time. Always close the safety net, make sure the surface around the trampoline is soft, and regularly check that the frame, net and padding are in good condition. Supervision is strongly recommended for young children.
How much space should I keep clear around the trampoline?
We recommend keeping 6.6 ft of clearance around every trampoline. This helps prevent children from hitting a wall, fence or other objects while jumping.
Can I dig in my trampoline on legs?
How deep should the pit be for my trampoline?
That depends on your trampoline: is it an in-ground or a ground-level model, and what size do you have? You don't dig a straight-sided hole, but a bowl-shaped pit. It is deepest in the middle and slopes up towards the edge.
In-ground trampoline
The frame stays about 7.87 in above the ground. This is the minimum depth in the middle, measured from ground level:
| Trampoline size |
Depth in the middle |
| 6 ft |
min. 17.72 in |
| 8 ft |
min. 25.60 in |
| 10 ft |
min. 27.56 in |
| 12 ft and 14 ft |
min. 29.53 in |
| 5 x 7 ft |
min. 17.72 in |
| 7 x 10 ft and 7 x 12 ft |
min. 37.41 in |
| 8 x 12 ft and 8 x 14 ft |
min. 39.38 in |
The pit is slightly smaller than the trampoline itself. For an 8 ft trampoline, for example, the pit has a diameter of 6.4 ft.
Ground-level trampoline
With a Dynamic or InTerra ground-level trampoline, the trampoline sits level with your lawn. That's why you dig 39.38 in deep in the middle, whatever the size. Along the edge, you leave a shallow ledge for the frame and the padding to rest in.
Extra hole for drainage
At the deepest point, dig one more small hole: 12.60 to 13.39 in wide and 7.88 in extra deep. This lets rainwater drain away. No water should be left standing in the pit.
Find the measurements for your model
The exact shape of the pit, with the depth at different distances from the edge, is shown in the product dimensional drawing. You'll find it on the product page under Manuals. Keep it to hand before you start and measure regularly as you go.
Good to know
- Before you start digging, check that there are no cables, pipes or sprinklers under the ground.
- Don't seal off the space under the trampoline airtight. Air needs to be able to escape when you jump.
- Do you have clay soil, lots of roots or a garden that stays wet for a long time? A landscape gardener can help you with the digging and drainage.
