Cartridge filters are affordable and easy to replace, but they need regular cleaning or replacement, usually every two to four weeks depending on use. This makes them a simple choice when buying a pool and pump in one set.

A sand filter pump filters even smaller particles than a cartridge filter and does not require frequent filter changes. The sand lasts for around 180 days, which means very little maintenance in between. If you want a durable pool and pump combination with less maintenance, a sand filter pump is a strong choice.

Some pool owners choose alternative filter media instead of standard filter sand. These options can improve filtration or reduce how often the media needs to be replaced. Always check whether your pump is suitable for alternative media before making changes.
